Collaboration will enable ACT Building Control to both access and share building control capacity through Plan Checker, supporting greater connectivity and access to expertise across an evolving regulatory landscape
ACT Building Control, part of the CHPK Group, has announced a new collaboration with Plan Checker, a digital platform connecting building control professionals with Building Control Bodies, clients and developers.
The collaboration will see ACT Building Control join Plan Checker in multiple capacities. Through a client profile, ACT will be able to access Registered Building Inspectors and other building control professionals available through the platform. In parallel, ACT will establish professional profiles through which its own RBI Class 2 and RBI Class 3 capacity can be made accessible to other organisations seeking appropriately registered building control expertise.
PlanChecker provides a digital-first platform through which Building Control Bodies can identify and engage appropriately registered professionals for plan assessments, site inspections and consultancy services. The platform facilitates direct connections between Building Control Bodies and professionals, providing another route through which professional capacity can be accessed when required. PlanChecker acts solely as a facilitating platform, with the engagement and delivery of services remaining between the Building Control Body and the professional.
For ACT Building Control, the collaboration provides an opportunity to complement its existing team with additional access to qualified professionals, while also making its own professional capacity available through Plan Checker. This two-way approach supports greater flexibility in how available expertise can be accessed and shared, while ACT maintains its focus on technical quality, regulatory compliance and client service.
Nader Hassan, Founder of Plan Checker, said: “The building control sector is undergoing significant change, with competency, capacity and access to the right expertise becoming increasingly important. Plan Checker was created to make it easier for building control bodies to connect with professionals and access the skills they need, when they need them.
“Working with ACT Building Control is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how technology can support established building control bodies while maintaining the professional standards and expertise that the industry requires. What makes this collaboration particularly significant is that ACT is embracing the platform in multiple capacities: accessing professional resource where required, while also making its own RBI Class 2 and Class 3 capacity accessible through Plan Checker.
“ACT has a strong reputation and a clear commitment to technical excellence, and we are looking forward to developing the relationship and demonstrating what greater connectivity across the building control profession can achieve.”
ACT Building Control is a Registered Building Control Approver operating across England and Wales, providing statutory building control services alongside Building Regulations advice and compliance support. The business has more than 20 years’ experience in regulatory compliance and supports projects across residential, commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and mixed-use sectors.
Stuart Hammond, Managing Director of ACT Building Control, said: “The regulatory environment has fundamentally changed the way building control operates, placing a much greater emphasis on competence, accountability and consistency. At the same time, the construction industry continues to require responsive and technically robust building control services.
“Our collaboration with Plan Checker gives us another route to access highly skilled and appropriately registered professionals, helping us manage capacity while maintaining the standards our clients expect. It is about combining technology with professional expertise in a way that supports both our people and our clients.
“We are particularly focused on ensuring that any additional resource complements the strength of our existing team. Plan Checker’s approach provides a structured way of identifying suitable professionals, while ACT retains responsibility for maintaining the quality, oversight and consistency of our building control service.”
The collaboration between ACT Building Control and Plan Checker will initially support ACT’s building control operations while also enabling ACT to make its own RBI Class 2 and Class 3 capacity accessible through the platform. By participating on both sides of the platform, the collaboration demonstrates how Plan Checker can support building control bodies in both accessing and sharing professional capacity, with the potential to develop the relationship further as both businesses respond to changing demand and opportunities within the sector.
